Serums & Oils
Getting Serious with Serums and Oils
Do you cleanse and moisturise your skin every day using 100% natural, plant-based products? Do you exfoliate a couple of times every week with a gentle, chemical-free exfoliator? Do you use multiple products to nourish the deeper layers of your skin as well as the outer layer? High five if you answered yes to all! But if you want to get serious about your skin consider the enormous benefits to be gained by adding serums and oils into your daily skincare routine.
Our serums and oils are packed full of nature’s most powerful ingredients which penetrate deep into the epidermis where they provide the most benefit.
How do you apply serums and oils to your face?
There are many different ways to incorporate serums and oils into your daily ritual.
Firstly, cleanse the day’s dirt and impurities away with your favourite Natural Instinct cleanser(s) suitable for your skin type. Rinse well and pat your skin dry. Then pick one of these combinations to hydrate your skin;
- Serum + Moisturiser/Sunscreen
- Serum + Oil + Moisturiser/Sunscreen (great for dry or mature skin)
- Serum + Oil
- Serum + Night Cream (great for night time)
- Serum + Oil + Night Cream (great for dry or mature skin at night)
To apply a serum, use one or two pumps and pat onto damp skin. To apply a facial oil, lightly massage one or two small drops onto your face and décolletage area.
Remember, serums should be applied beneath your moisturiser or sunscreen. They should not be used alone. Oils can be used beneath a moisturiser or alone. Moisturisers hydrate the upper layers of your skin and form a protective barrier to lock the moisture in, so your serums and oils won’t penetrate as well if they are applied on top of moisturisers.
To get the most out of your serums and oils, apply after exfoliating with the Invigorating Facial Scrub. Your skin will be free from dry, dead skin cells which restrict its ability to absorb the natural actives, so your serums and oils will work more effectively.
Are serums necessary?
If you want youthful, plump, dewy-looking skin which glows with good health then yes, serums are definitely necessary!
The small molecular structure of serums means they are easily absorbed and can deliver nutrients deep into the epidermal layers. This enables them to boost collagen, firm, plump and nourish the skin while improving its complexion. Just one or two pumps used twice a day will visibly reduce the signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration.
The bottom line is, if you want younger, healthier looking skin you need to use multiple layers of hydration and a serum is a must-have layer.
What’s the difference between serums and face oils?
Let’s answer that by comparing our range of nourishing serums and oils. We know that serums and oils are able to penetrate deeper than moisturisers, but should you use one or the other, or both?
Our high-powered, anti-ageing Vitamin C + Camellia Oil is a lightweight, easily absorbed oil which rejuvenates and provides intense hydration to the skin. The combination of botanic sources is like a cocktail of delicious ingredients working together to hydrate and boost the skin while waging war on free radicals and the visible signs of ageing.
Rejuvenating Rosehip Oil also contains high levels of Vitamin C, as well as Vitamin A, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. This potent formula is bursting with natural nutrients to form a powerful anti-ageing, ultra-hydrating and replenishing facial oil.
These two facial oils will leave the skin feeling nourished, soft and supple, but with no oily residue.
Are there any other types of facial oils?
Our other facial oil product, the Skin Refining Cleansing Oil, deeply cleanses the skin. It is a pure cleansing oil formulated with 6 botanical oils and does not contain any sulphates or synthetic foaming agents to lather. Based on the fact that oil attracts oil, it effectively removes impurities, pollutants and the excess sebum our skin produces, leaving it refreshed, hydrated and super soft.
So how does our Plump and Renew Serum perform differently?
Serums are powerful sources of concentrated nutrients. They also have the ability to penetrate deeply so that intense nourishment is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin.
The Plump and Renew Serum is like a power-packed multi-vitamin providing multiple benefits to your skin. Like a facial oil it will moisturise the skin, but the combination of selected botanic ingredients means it will also fight skin fatigue, noticeably reduce the signs of ageing, plump and intensely nurture the skin. After using serum your skin can feel firm and toned, a very different sensation to how your skin may feel after using oils.
The short answer is, both serums and oils are highly effective ways to provide the deeper layers of your skin with important hydration and nutrients. Be guided by how your skin is feeling and use them both as you feel they are needed. Your skin will thank you for it!
How often should you use serums and oils?
To get the best results from your serums and oils, use them twice a day i.e. morning and night. Facial oils can even be used during the course of the day over makeup to maintain hydration. Just take 1-2 drops in your palm, rub together and press into your skin without rubbing. Natural Instinct products are 100% free of sulphates, parabens and over 400 synthetic chemicals, our serums and oils are safe to use on your skin as often as needed.
